Week 4 Discussion Biomolecules to the MAX!!!

HEY HEY SCHOLARS!!!

Its your friendly neighborhood Biology Teacher, Mr. D.

For this weeks post I would like you to analyze one FULL meal you had this week and I would like you to categorize and break down the whole meal as either: Carbohydrate (sugar), Protein, Lipid, or Starch.

For the second part I would like you to tell me what solution or test we could run to prove that each food belongs in each category. (Hint categorize as using BENEDICT'S Solution, BUIRET'S Solution, Iodine, Paper Bag)

Have a great Week!!!

Mr. D

I had a sandwhich for lunch with a soda. So ill break it down for you.
Bread is flour which is a plant,
so this i could say is a protein,
Next is the ham which is made from meat,
Its a protein aint that neat,
next is the lettuce,
which of course is a protein,
then is the coke,
that is a carbohydrate and sugar, what!

To test this you would mix protein items with the Buiruts.

Sugar would be tested with the Benedicts law.

Just having some fun with my post

for dinner i had a cheeseburger and soda. in a cheeseburger:

bread is made of wheat which is a protein
cheese is made of milk which comes from cows so its a protein,
the meat also comes from cows so its a protein
and the soda is a carbohydrate cuz of the sugar

the proteins could be found by mixing with buiret solution and the sugar could be found by mixing the soda with benedicts solution

For dinner I had hamburger with brown gravy, corn, mashed potatoes, and water.
Hamburger is a protein (which could also be a nucleic acid), the corn is a starch, and so are the potatoes.
You could test the meat with the Buirets, and could test the corn and potatoes with iodine.

for dinner i had chiken fingers with french fries.
chicken would be a protein
and the french fires would be a starch.
test chicken with Buirets.
test french fries with iodine.

For Dinner I had Grilled Porkchops, Corn and Rice a Roni.
-pork chop is nucleic acid and a protein.
-rice a roni is- a carbohydrate
-corn is a carbohydrate, starch.

-I would test the Grilled Porkchops by using the Biurets Solution.
and then........
I would test the Corn by using the Benedicts solution.
and finally......
I would test the Rice A Roni by using the Benedicts Solution.

I had a chicken salad. The chicken would be a protein and lipid because it was fried, and the salad would be a protein. So for them both you could do the bureits test.

For lunch i had pastelillos (fried turnovers) made with a picadillo mix of ground meat, potatoes, tomato sauce, adobo, sofrito, and sazon in a (boiled) empanada with a Malta Goya drink.

The ground meat would be a protein and nucleic acid, the potatoes would be a starch (carbohydrate), and the empanada would be a protein and lipid (from it being boiled).
The Malta Goya would be a carbohydrate.

You would test the ground meat and empanada with the Biurets Solution.
You would test the potatoes with the iodine/potassium solution.
You would test the Malta Goya with the Benedict's Solution.
The pastelillo as a whole would be tested with the iodine/potassium and Biurets solution, and the lipid test with the brown paper from it being boiled.

ok i had a steak with beans, baked potato, corn bread, salad, and sweet tea.
so the steak is a protein from the meat, which requires the Buiruts solution.
then the beans which is also a protein, Buiruts.
next is the baked potato which is a starch that needs ioddine for its solution.
then the corn bread. im guessing its a carbohydrate, i do not remember what that test was if there was one.
sweet tea, which is a sugar that needs the Benedicts solution.
then the salad that is a mixture of plants which is mostly proteins that needed the Buiruts solution.

I had chicken and Rice for dinner.

Chicken would be a protein and i would test it with Biuret solution.

Rice is a starch so i would test it with iodine.

I had a salad
Which was composed of all veggies
So the veggies would be protein
Therefore I would use the buiret test it

Today I had A Chicken Sandwich fries and a red gatorade at lunch today.
SO im goin to breakdown my lunch. The Bread on a chicken sandwich is a flour, which is a carb.
My spicy chicken patty which came from a chicken is a protein.
Next i had Ketchup and Fries which is a a potatoe and that is a starch.
Last but not least is a Red Gatorade which is a Sugar.

To test this you would mix protein items with the Buiruts.

Sugar would be tested with the Benedicts law.

I had a burger and french fries.
BURGER
1.Bread=flour
2.Beef=proteins
French Fries=starch.
